Edwin Goei, LMFT

Do you wish to feel better than you often feel? Looking to improve your relationships with others, like romantic partners, family, or coworkers? Seeking to change bad habits or overcome addictions? I work with individuals, couples, and relationships to find paths toward achieving common goals.

I like to affirm the unique perspective, culture, and strengths of each client. I’ll start by listening to where you are at and where you want to go. Sometimes barriers get in the way of our goals. By working together as a team, I’m optimistic we will find new paths to overcome barriers. Along the way, I’ll invite your feedback to keep us on track.

About Me

I’m culturally mixed. I was born into a Chinese Indonesian family. As a child, my parents immigrated to Texas seeking a better life for themselves and their kids. I liked science and majored in engineering in college. After graduation, I moved to the Bay Area to work as a software engineer in the computer industry. Somewhere along the way, I met my husband. Fast forward to my 40s, my life experience, curiosity, and sense of purpose led me to change careers.

I’m now a psychotherapist and in my second career. A number of factors led up to this change. First, I enjoy thinking, learning, and relating. Also, I have experienced personal hardships that I’ve managed to overcome. Moreover, on an existential level, making the world a better place is how I find meaning in life.

I have two offices in the Castro District in San Francisco. Both are within a five minute walk from the Castro Muni Metro Station and are served by several Muni routes such as the 33 and 24 lines. Street parking is usually available.

  • Monday and Wednesday sessions are at 533A Castro St. near the intersection of 18th St in San Francisco. Access requires traversing stairs spanning two floors.
  • Thursday sessions are at 4326 18th St. near the intersection of Diamond St. Access requires traversing stairs spanning one floor.

Policies & Fees

Sessions are 50 minutes, 80 minutes, or longer. My fee is $140 for a 50-minute session or $210 for a 80-minute (1 hour and 20 minute) session. Longer sessions are prorated at the rate of $70 for each additional 30 minutes.

If cost is a barrier, I have a limited number of scholarship slots for clients who are not able to afford my full fee. Please contact me for details and availability.

If you want to use insurance, your policy may provide out-of-network benefits. Please check your policy to find details on the amount of coverage. I will provide you with a statement, also called a superbill, for you to submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement.

I have a 24-hour cancellation window. Cancellations made prior to this window are rescheduled with no penalty. Cancellations made without a 24-hour notice, but prior to the start of the session incur a $50 late-cancellation fee. No-shows or cancellations made after the start of the session incur the full fee.
